Professor Mkpa Agu Mkpa, former Vice Chancellor of Abia State University, Uturu, called upon the National Assembly to reconsider the 2014 Constitutional Conference report. He made the appeal in Abuja during the keynote lecture for the African School of Diplomacy and International Relations’ third annual public lecture series, induction, and conferment of honorary doctorate degrees. The event, themed “The Political Economy of Nation-Building: The World’s Unfinished Business’’, was organized in collaboration with Queen’s University Belfast, UK.

“That conference made landmark recommendations which, had they been implemented, could have accelerated the tempo of our nation-building efforts,’’ Mkpa emphasized.

Highlighting the significance of institutions over individuals, Mkpa stressed that the country’s strength and greatness relied on strong institutions and effective nation-building. He also pointed out the link between unresolved nation-building issues and military coups in some African countries, advocating for the normalization of such issues by leveraging the recommendations of the 2014 Constitutional Conference in Nigeria.

“The 2014 national conference remains one of the most significant efforts in Nigeria’s history of nation-building, offering profound solutions to the stumbling blocks hindering the nation’s progress,” he asserted.
