Ashleigh Plumptre Reveals Reasons for Absence from Super Falcons

Super Falcons’ defender, Ashleigh Plumptre, has opened up about the factors contributing to her prolonged absence from the national team.

The talented centre-back, who currently plays for Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia, has been notably absent from the Nigerian squad following her remarkable performance at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Queries surrounding Plumptre’s omission from the team have surfaced during interim head coach Justin Madugu’s tenure.

Addressing the issue, the former Leicester City player asserted that her current absence from the nine-time African champions is a deliberate, personal choice.

In an interview with Nigeria Football, Plumptre expressed, “Yes, it’s been a hiatus. I have not been able to join the upcoming camp; as I mentioned, it’s primarily a personal decision as I focus on taking care of my body. However, my ultimate desire is to rejoin the team. It’s a privilege, and I aim to be in optimal physical condition to compete in crucial matches.”

Having represented the Super Falcons in 15 matches, Plumptre’s commitment to her well-being underscores her dedication to contributing effectively to the team’s success.
