The All Progressive Congress (APC) in Kano has alleged that the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) is making deliberate attempts to sow discord and ignite chaos in Kano through a series of orchestrated protests.
Furthermore, the APC has accused the NNPP of disregarding the Peace Accord, which was signed at the Police Headquarters, by actively promoting protests within the city.
Dr. Musa Kwankwaso, a dedicated APC member and former House of Representatives candidate from Madobi, Kura, Garun Mallam, expressed his concerns to the press on Wednesday. He stated that the NNPP’s actions were creating unnecessary tension in a previously peaceful Kano.
He emphasized the need to shed light on the NNPP’s activities, which he claims are aimed at causing chaos following the Appeal Court’s decision to remove Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf from office.
He reiterated, “We are all aware that the All Progressives Congress (APC) was declared the winner of the March 18th, 2023 Governorship Election by the Elections Petitions Tribunal, and Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna was duly announced as the Governor of Kano State. This judgement was reaffirmed by the Appeal Court, which also declared that Abba Kabir Yusuf was not a member of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) when he contested for the governorship of the state.”
“However, despite the court ruling, the NNPP and the Kwankwasiyya Movement have resorted to extensive propaganda, undermining the judiciary and attempting to incite political violence in Kano.”
“They have propagated false claims of serious tension in Kano by funding sporadic protests and rallies across the metropolis, in violation of the Peace Accord recently signed at the Police Command, which prohibits such public assemblies.”
“I want to unequivocally state that the peace and harmony experienced in Kano, with everyone going about their daily activities, is evidence that the alleged tension in the state is unfounded. These sponsored protests only serve to falsely paint a picture of crisis in the state,” he added.
“Meanwhile, the NNPP is squandering Kano’s limited resources by pursuing political matters in international forums such as ECOWAS, EU, US, and other places, instead of awaiting the decision of the Supreme Court of the land.”
“Even worse, the NNPP is denying the masses peace by first illegally demolishing their properties worth billions of Naira and now sponsoring innocent youths to foment tension and chaos in the state.”
He cautioned that the people of Kano cannot be manipulated into supporting these orchestrated protests, as they believe that power is vested in Allah, who bestows it upon whomsoever He chooses and takes it away as He deems fit.
“The people of Kano stand with the APC, Gawuna, and Ganduje. We emerged victorious in the election, and the court, upon detecting the fraudulent votes inserted during the polls, nullified them. The protests they are orchestrating are baseless and are purposefully intended to stoke political unrest and exacerbate non-existent tension.”
