NFF President Gusau Promises VAR Introduction to NPFL

President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, has made a bold declaration to facilitate the implementation of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

Gusau proclaimed this at the inaugural retreat of the NPFL management and staff in Abuja, affirming the NFF’s commitment to commencing the process of integrating VAR into Nigerian football. This involves sending referees to countries where VAR is already in operation for a comprehensive study of its application and usage.

Expressing his unwavering determination, Gusau stated, “I can assure you that VAR will be effectively integrated into our domestic football before the conclusion of my first term as the president of the Nigeria Football Federation in 2026. The progress may be gradual, but we will undoubtedly achieve this goal.”

Furthermore, he commended the board of the Nigeria Premier Football League for their relentless efforts to rejuvenate the league, emphasizing that the NFF and the League management will persist in introducing initiatives and advancements to foster the league’s development.

It is noteworthy that the NPFL will host Matchday 11 games this weekend.
