President Bola Tinubu has dismissed the recent national convention of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as “noise making” and “rascality,” while reaffirming his readiness for the 2027 general elections. Speaking at the Presidential Villa in Abuja during a meeting with the 36 state coordinators of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors (RHA), Tinubu also referred to the ADC event as a “street convention.”
The President emphasized his commitment to democracy and national unity, stressing that Nigeria’s progress must be anchored on a strong judiciary. “I am inspired. I’m ready. I am grateful to all of you. This is an opportunity of a lifetime to break the shackles of poverty and ignorance, to ensure democracy survives not the noise-making, not the rascality of a street convention,” he said.
Tinubu underscored the importance of adhering to the rule of law, stating, “We cannot submit to disobedience of unlawful orders. If that is the goal, we must embrace the judiciary whether it favours us or doesn’t. We must submit to this principle of democracy, separation of powers, and understanding of the dynamics of it and the nationhood that Nigeria is.”
He called for unity and a shared vision for the country’s future, asserting, “We must build one country. There is no other way. The path to national greatness is one common vision, one nation for the progress and prosperity of our people. That is what you must do.”
The remarks come amid preparations for the 2027 elections, with Tinubu signaling his intent to seek a second term. His comments also reflect ongoing tensions within Nigeria’s political landscape, where opposition parties like the ADC continue to challenge the ruling administration. Tinubu’s focus on the judiciary and national unity highlights his administration’s priorities as it navigates both internal and external political pressures.
