The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has denied allegations that it beat and detained three journalists from Kwara and a lawyer on Friday. Salihu Taofeek, chairman of the Association of Kwara Online Media Practitioners and publisher of the Informant247 online news platform, claimed he was beaten and locked in a cell for hours by NSCDC officials. He said he was detained together with Salihu Ayatullah, the platform’s editor, and Eyitanwa Lawal, a lawyer‑turned‑journalist with SOBI 101.9 FM in Ilorin.
Taofeek recounted the incident, noting that around 1 p.m. on Friday he received a call from a cousin who had been arrested and detained by the Kwara State Command of the NSCDC. He and Ayatullah went to the command with a lawyer to seek assistance. Upon arrival they were told the matter was a family issue and were directed to the Peace and Conflict Resolution unit. There, they learned that the detainee had allegedly fought with the wife of an officer.
