The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reiterated its commitment to addressing the political crisis in Rivers State, emphasizing the effectiveness of its interventions. This assurance came following an emergency meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) on Wednesday. Upholding Unity and Leadership The NWC, under the Acting Chairmanship of Umar Iliya Damagum, affirmed the party’s unity and strong presence in Rivers State and across the nation. Despite alleged attempts by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to diminish opposition voices and establish a one-party state, the PDP remains resolute in providing steadfast and effective leadership. Debo Ologunagba, the National Publicity Secretary, conveyed this stance in a statement, denouncing reckless conduct and irresponsible remarks from certain leaders aimed at undermining vital party structures. Condemning Unscrupulous Actions The statement specifically scrutinized the public remarks of former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, highlighting the detrimental impact of such statements on the PDP’s cohesion and its ability to fulfill its role as an opposition for the betterment of democracy and the Nigerian populace. The NWC expressed dismay over the recruitment of individuals by the ruling APC to sabotage the PDP, citing betrayal and self-serving interests as driving forces behind these actions. Reaffirming Expectations Rebuking the unbecoming behavior of those who have previously benefitted from the PDP but have now resorted to undermining the party, the NWC stressed the need for constructive engagement and loyalty to the party and the nation. It called for a departure from actions that contradict the PDP’s mission and are detrimental to the welfare of Nigerians, warning that such behavior violates the PDP’s constitution. The statement further underscored the NWC’s commitment to enforcing disciplinary measures in accordance with the party’s constitutional provisions against those who flout its principles. Moving Forward In closing, the NWC signaled its unwavering dedication to protecting the interests of the PDP and the Nigerian people, as well as its readiness to take decisive action against those who stray from the party’s values. This resolute stance serves as a testament to the PDP’s determination to navigate the challenges it faces and uphold its role in the political landscape of Nigeria.
