The Nigeria National League (NNL) has imposed a hefty N1m fine on Mailantarki Care for the inability to control their supporters during the recent match against Adamawa United. Reports surfaced of Mailantarki Care supporters harassing and intimidating match officials, a direct violation of NNL’s rules of engagement.
Dr. Ayo Abdulrahman, the NNL Chief Operating Officer, expressed disappointment at the incident and cautioned the club about the possibility of facing more severe penalties if such behavior recurs. Mailantarki Care has been instructed to remit the fine before their upcoming game scheduled for January 6, 2024.
In addition to the fine, several key figures within Mailantarki Care have been sanctioned. Coach Sulaiman Usman, Secretary Adamu Usman, and Club Coordinator Auwal Kamuwa have each been handed a two-month ban from NNL activities due to their involvement in the aggression directed at the officials.
The NNL’s decisive actions underline their commitment to maintaining sportsmanship and upholding the integrity of football within Nigeria.
