Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, reiterated his administration’s commitment to responsible fiscal management and the prudent use of state resources while presenting the 2026 budget, titled “Changing Gears 3.0 Solution Continues,” to the Anambra State House of Assembly. He emphasized the need to accelerate development and transform the state through a new developmental drive.
The proposed budget totals ₦757,884,487,705, up from the 2025 budget of ₦606,991,849,118. Governor Soludo noted that his administration has not borrowed funds to execute projects; instead, it focuses on financing initiatives that generate revenue and strengthen the economy. Although funding the budget remains a significant challenge, the administration is committed to its mantra of “doing more with less.”
Anambra State has been ranked first in fiscal transparency and recently recognized as the leading state in fiscal sustainability. The governor attributed these achievements to cutting the cost of governance, prioritizing value over volume, and investing in projects that yield long‑term benefits. Reflecting this approach, the budget allocates 21 percent to recurrent expenditure and 79 percent to capital expenditure.
To address funding challenges, the state plans to launch a technology‑driven initiative to enhance its internally generated revenue system, reduce leakages and widen the tax net. Governor Soludo also highlighted the importance of strategic partnerships with the federal government, the international community, the private sector and local governments to drive development.
The 2026 budget aims to deepen and consolidate the foundations laid during the governor’s first term while introducing new legacy projects that will shape the state’s future. These initiatives will be implemented across five key pillars: security, law and order; infrastructure and economic transformation; and human capital development. With responsible fiscal management and strategic partnerships, Anambra State seeks to continue its development trajectory and improve the lives of its citizens.
