Citizen Participation Against Corruption Initiative (CPACI) has lauded President Bola Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to combating corruption in Nigeria. In a recent statement to journalists in Katsina, CPACI Executive Director, Bishir Dauda, commended the President for spearheading a fearless probe into the actions of Mr. Godwin Emefiele, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Dauda emphasized the necessity of holding corrupt individuals accountable, asserting that the probe signifies a pivotal milestone in the fight against corruption. He echoed sentiments expressed by other well-meaning Nigerians, urging for thorough investigations and legal repercussions for those implicated in corrupt practices.
Referring to the contentious ‘Naira Redesign Policy’ and the lack of transparency surrounding its implementation, Dauda underscored the detrimental impact on Nigerian citizens. He also raised concerns about the mismanagement of funds, particularly highlighting Emefiele’s alleged inability to account for a staggering N17.369 trillion through the controversial ‘Ways and Means financing’ scheme. Such actions, according to Dauda, erode public trust and impede the nation’s progress.
Moreover, Dauda pointed out the disillusionment prevalent among Nigerians due to the perceived lack of tangible action in response to various corruption scandals. He emphasized the urgency for President Tinubu’s administration to demonstrate a stark departure from this trend by ensuring thorough, unfettered investigations and holding culpable individuals accountable.
In a decisive call to action, Dauda urged for the judiciary and legal fraternity to stand firm in upholding justice, cautioning against succumbing to external pressures that may compromise the integrity of legal processes.
As Nigeria grapples with pervasive corruption, the spotlight is on President Tinubu to uphold the principles of transparency, accountability, and the rule of law. The resounding message from CPACI is clear – the time for half measures has passed. A comprehensive and unimpeded investigation must be pursued, and those found guilty of corruption must face the full force of the law.
In a global context, the call for uncompromising anti-corruption measures resonates beyond Nigeria’s borders, serving as a potent reminder of the universal imperative to combat corruption at all levels. As corruption continues to pose a formidable challenge worldwide, the actions taken in Nigeria can serve as a beacon of hope and a clarion call to uphold integrity, transparency, and justice.
