Plateau Senator Calls for Enduring Peace Amidst Rising Violence

Plateau Senator Diket Plang has emphasized the vital need for long-term solutions to the ongoing security crisis in the state, dismissing the effectiveness of temporary palliatives. A staunch advocate for sustainable peace, Mr. Diket emphasized that the implementation of permanent measures is crucial to halt the recurring bloodshed and loss of lives in the north-central region.

During a press briefing in Jos, the senator proposed the establishment of military bases at identified flashpoints, intending to deter and repel banditry effectively. “Our primary goal should be to create a secure environment that prevents the entry and escape of criminals,” he stated passionately.

Mr. Diket revealed that he had presented a motion at the national assembly, seeking comprehensive strategies to attain enduring peace in Plateau. Expressing disillusionment with the reactive approach to security challenges, he highlighted the necessity for a paradigm shift towards sustainable solutions. “We must move beyond impromptu military interventions and focus on securing all entry and exit points used by criminals across the state,” he asserted.

In his commendation of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Mr. Diket lauded the accessibility and rapid responses demonstrated during periods of crisis. He urged for increased support and funding for security personnel, stressing the collective responsibility of citizens in aiding the identification and apprehension of criminals.

The senator concluded with a poignant call for unity in the pursuit of peace: “We must collectively assist the security forces in rooting out criminal elements within our communities, even if they are our own kin. This is imperative if we genuinely desire a peaceful coexistence.”

In proposing these strategic initiatives, Senator Diket Plang positions himself as a proactive leader, echoing the sentiments of a populace disillusioned by the recurring cycle of violence and insecurity. As Plateau continues to grapple with these challenges, his resolute plea for lasting solutions reverberates across the nation, demanding the attention of policymakers and citizens alike.
