The Kogi State Government is on the verge of naming a successor to the vacant position of the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, following the passing of the late Alhaji (Dr.) Ado Ibrahim in November 2023 at the age of 94.

Governor Yahaya Bello has confirmed that the announcement of the designated candidate will take place next week, after meeting with the aspirants recommended by the Kingmakers committee in Kogi Central. The committee has put forward seven aspirants for consideration by the state government, from whom one will be appointed to fill the esteemed role.

The list of candidates recommended by the committee includes prominent figures such as the former Deputy Governor of the state, Dr. Philip Salawu; former Clerk of the National Assembly, Barrister Ataba Sani Omolori; and Gen. Yusuf Abubakar Amuda. Other aspirants in the running are Barr. Momoh Shaibu, Prof. Ibrahim Onuwe Abdulmalik, HRH Dr. Ahmad Tijani Anaje, and Mr. Ahmed Momohjimoh.

In his address, Governor Bello urged the aspirants to rally behind the appointed candidate, emphasizing that all contenders are equally qualified for the position. He also warned against any actions or statements that could sow division and threaten the peace within the land.

The impending appointment of the new Ohinoyi of Ebiraland holds significant importance for the region, and the government’s transparent selection process marks a crucial moment in the succession of this traditional leadership role.
