The Enugu State Police Command of the Nigerian Police Force has successfully dismantled an armed robbery gang, resulting in the arrest of a suspect named Chinenye Nwadike, who is 32 years old. According to a statement released by the Command’s spokesman, Daniel Ndukwe, five firearms and 374 rounds of live ammunition were recovered from the suspect. The arrest took place on Friday night when operatives from the command’s Octopus Squad ‘B’ conducted an intelligence-guided sting operation at the Diamond Estate area along Onitsha Road in Enugu.

Ndukwe noted that the criminal gang had been notorious for committing serious crimes within the Enugu metropolis and its surroundings, operating under the ominous name of ‘Unknown Gunmen’. Chinenye Nwadike is a native of Mbaitoli in Imo State but resides in Ndiagha, Amechi-Uwani, Enugu. The statement also indicated that other members of the gang managed to escape during the operation, sustaining bullet wounds.

During the operation, the police recovered a yellow tricycle that the suspects had been using, which had been reported stolen at gunpoint earlier that evening in Eke-Otu Amechi-Awkunanaw, Enugu. Additional items seized included two assault rifles, one English-made shotgun, one locally fabricated pump-action gun, one double-barreled gun, 349 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, 25 live cartridges, a sledgehammer, a battle axe head, four machetes, two bottles of perfume, and objects suspected to be charms.

Commissioner of Police Ahmed Ammani praised the operatives for their adherence to the crime prevention measures of the Command, which led to this significant operational success. He urged the team to remain steadfast and resolute in their efforts to apprehend the fleeing members of the gang. Furthermore, the Commissioner encouraged citizens of the state to remain law-abiding and vigilant, and to assist the Command by providing credible information or intelligence necessary to combat unrepentant criminals. Such information can be reported at the nearest police station or by calling the Command’s emergency hotlines: 08032003702, 08075390883, 08098880172, or 08086671202. Alternatively, citizens can send emails to the Command for further assistance.
