Anamero Dekeri, the representative for Etsako Federal Constituency, has officially announced his candidacy for the gubernatorial elections in Edo State. A member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dekeri took a bold stance against the incumbent governor, Godwin Obaseki, accusing his administration of failing to deliver essential democratic benefits to the people.
Addressing the media in Abuja, Dekeri expressed his resolute intent to compete for the APC ticket in the forthcoming Edo 2024 governorship election. “I stand before you with a sense of purpose and determination. My name is Honourable Anamero Dekeri, and I am honoured to declare my sincere interest in seeking the APC ticket for the Edo 2024 governorship election,” he proclaimed.
In scathing criticism of Obaseki’s governance under the PDP, Dekeri asserted, “Even the blind can see that the government of the state led by Godwin Obaseki is an abysmal failure. People are suffering, people are dying. Basic infrastructures have collapsed. The industries to employ our teeming population are no longer there, all sectors are in bad shape.”
Moreover, Dekeri opposed the notion of zoning in leadership selection, emphasizing the importance of competence over regional rotation. “It is time Nigeria began to see beyond the leadership of turn by turn because, in my view, zoning breeds incompetence. And once an individual has a sense of entitlement, it could bring out the worst from that human. So we should be looking at a state where we choose leaders on the strength of their competence to lead. Let us dump the turn-by-turn politics,” he articulated.
Dekeri also challenged the insistence on governorship from Edo Central senatorial district, highlighting the disparities in population and emphasizing the need for leadership based on merit rather than regional quotas.
Furthermore, he outlined his vision for Edo State, focusing on progress, prosperity, and good governance. “My vision for Edo State is one of progress, prosperity, and pride. I aspire to create an environment where every child has access to quality education, the youth are equipped with skills for the future, and our industries flourish, generating employment and driving economic growth,” shared Dekeri, underscoring his commitment to the welfare and empowerment of the citizenry.
The gubernatorial election in Edo State, scheduled for September 21, 2024, is poised to witness a dynamic contest as Dekeri emerges as a significant contender, espousing a platform advocating for change and progress.
