The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has amassed a staggering N175 million from the sale of nomination and expression of interest forms to contenders vying for the Edo State governorship position. The Independent National Electoral Commission has slated September 21, 2024, for the state’s gubernatorial election, setting the stage for heightened political activity.
According to the PDP’s released election schedule, the congress to determine the party’s gubernatorial candidate is scheduled for February 22, 2024. As a result, the PDP commenced the sale of nomination and expression of interest forms on Wednesday in Abuja, reflecting the fervent aspirations of party members seeking the Edo governorship seat.
Aspirants are required to pay N30 million for the nomination form and N5 million for the expression of interest form, amounting to a total of N35 million per candidate. The accumulated N175 million underscores the significant financial gains for the PDP, facilitated by five contenders who have already procured the forms.
The daughter of Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, Blessing, emerged as the inaugural PDP aspirant from Edo to obtain the forms at the party’s headquarters, Wadata House, Abuja, on Wednesday. Subsequently, other notable aspirants, including the Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, Asue Ighodalo, Felix Akhabue, and Anslem Ojezua, acquired the PDP nomination and expression of interest forms on Thursday.
This impressive financial feat and the growing roster of aspirants signal the escalating momentum and competitiveness underpinning the forthcoming Edo State governorship election.
