The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) made a significant interception at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, on Jan. 11. A suspected drug trafficker destined for Milan, Italy, was apprehended. Femi Babafemi, the agency’s spokesman, revealed that the suspect, a frequent traveler, had concealed substantial amounts of codeine-based syrup and Rohypnol in his luggage. The search yielded five cartons containing 50 bottles of codeine syrup and 300 tablets of Rohypnol.
Continuing their crackdown, the agency seized a sizable consignment of “Canadian Loud,” a potent synthetic variant of Indian hemp, packaged in 324 bags the following day, on Jan. 12, also in Lagos. The authorities apprehended a 42-year-old suspect in the Onikan area of Lagos Island in connection with this seizure. The total weight of the intercepted drugs was 111.2kg, and they were being transported for distribution in an unregistered vehicle by the suspect.
Femi Babafemi emphasized that NDLEA’s War against Drug Abuse campaign persists, with interventions in schools, markets, places of worship, and other public spaces across the country.
As the NDLEA continues its unwavering efforts to combat drug trafficking and abuse, these recent interceptions serve as a reminder of the ongoing battle against illicit substances, both locally and internationally.
