American actor Jaafar Jackson will portray his uncle, the legendary pop star Michael Jackson, in the upcoming biopic about the singer’s life. This announcement was made by the film’s director, Antoine Fuqua, who shared a photo of Jaafar’s transformation on Instagram on Monday. In his post, Fuqua wrote, “Proud to announce @jaafarjackson as Michael—the motion picture event that explores the journey of the man who became the King of Pop.”
Jaafar also shared the same image on his own account, expressing his excitement for the project. He stated, “I’m humbled and honored to bring my Uncle Michael’s story to life. To all the fans all over the world, I’ll see you soon.” According to a press release, the biopic, titled *Michael*, will explore both the highs and lows of Jackson’s life, including his most iconic performances that contributed to his status as the greatest entertainer of all time.
Katherine Jackson, Michael’s mother, welcomed the news in a statement included in the press release, as reported by E! News. She said, “Jaafar embodies my son. It’s so wonderful to see him carry on the Jackson legacy of entertainers and performers.” Jaafar, who closely resembles the “Thriller” crooner, is the son of Michael’s older brother, Jermaine Jackson. Jermaine was a vocalist in the former Motown boy band, The Jackson Five, of which Michael was also a member.
