Abdulwaheed Odunuga, the New Nigeria Peoples Party candidate for the Kosofe Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives, has dismissed social media rumors claiming he has withdrawn from the race. In a statement made on Monday in Lagos, Odunuga, who is commonly referred to as ABOO, affirmed his commitment to winning the seat and providing effective leadership for the constituents who have placed their trust in him.
Odunuga expressed his surprise upon hearing earlier in the day that he had stepped down in favor of Mrs. Kafilat Ogbara, the candidate from the All Progressives Congress. He categorically stated that these rumors are false, emphasizing his determination to fulfill the expectations of his supporters who invested in his nomination and expression of interest form to represent them in parliament. “I confidently reassure all residents that I have not and will not step down for anyone in the coming elections, as I am poised to win at the poll,” he declared.
He urged the people of Kosofe Federal Constituency to actively collect their Permanent Voter Cards and make their voices heard through their votes. “If you sell your vote, at the end of the day, don’t complain,” he warned. As the National Vice Chairman of the Joint Action for Good Governance, Odunuga promised that his campaign team would intensify efforts to mobilize voters throughout Kosofe in the lead-up to the election.
“The primary vision of our campaign team remains to change the governance and leadership narratives in Kosofe through community-responsive, all-inclusive, and quality representation in parliament,” he stated. Odunuga also noted that the NNPP’s aggressive grassroots mobilization efforts have unsettled the camps of other candidates.
In light of alleged attacks on NNPP campaign materials, including the tearing down and destruction of posters and banners, Odunuga called for calm among his supporters. He urged security agencies to address these undemocratic actions by thugs to safeguard democracy. Odunuga reiterated his commitment to defending the ordinary people of the area in parliament if elected.
