The Benue State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has made a significant move by summoning Hon. Berger Alfred, a member of the State House of Assembly representing Makurdi North State Constituency, to appear before a disciplinary committee. This follows allegations of anti-party activities against him, particularly in connection with the upcoming bye-election into Guma State Constituency.
The party, through its Publicity Secretary Daniel Ihomun, disclosed that Alfred’s summons is in line with Article 21 of the Constitution of the All Progressives Congress. The move comes after a petition by APC Party Chairmen of Guma and Makurdi Local Government Areas and 50 others, regarding actions deemed as anti-party by Hon. Berger Emberga Alfred, the Member representing Makurdi North State Constituency in the Benue State House of Assembly.
A seven-member disciplinary committee, chaired by Barrister Vincent Uji, has been constituted by the party to investigate the allegations. Other members of the committee include Princess Awuese Nancy Torhee, Hon. Daniel Ihomun, Comrade Cephas Tertinde Adom, Hon. Adah Ochojila, Hon. Simon Aluor, and Alhaji Mohamed Hassan serving as the Secretary. The committee has directed Alfred to appear before them at Hon. Umar Ganduje Congress Hall, APC Secretariat, Makurdi (Sen. Ahmed Tinubu House) on Monday by 3 pm.
This development underscores the determination of the APC in Benue State to enforce discipline and uphold party cohesion, especially as the political landscape evolves. It also reflects the party’s commitment to ensuring that members adhere to its constitutional provisions and conduct themselves in a manner that aligns with the party’s values and objectives.
The outcome of this disciplinary process is anticipated to have a ripple effect, not only within the Benue State chapter of the APC but also in the broader political sphere, as it highlights the party’s efforts to maintain internal harmony and discipline amongst its ranks.
