Delta Governor Takes Action Over Corruption Allegations in Agriculture Department

The Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, has suspended the Commissioner of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Omoun Perez, over allegations of misappropriation of funds in a greenhouse project. In response, a seven-man committee has been established to investigate the allegations.

A statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Kingsley Emu, announced that the Governor has also ordered top officials of the ministry, including Permanent Secretary Bennet Agamah, Assistant Director of Agricultural Engineering Oki Yintareke, and Chief Accountant Gabriel Idiatacheko, to proceed on compulsory leave until further notice.

Emu clarified that the government’s decision does not imply guilt but is a necessary measure in ensuring an unbiased investigation process. The directive follows a review of the implementation of the greenhouse project by the state Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

Governor Oborevwori recently inspected the Accelerated Agriculture Development Scheme at Mbiri Farm Settlement and Agro-Industrial Park, promising a N2 billion disbursement to farmers within the month as part of the Special Agricultural Intervention Fund.
