Nigeria Wrestling Federation Announces National Trials for 2024 Africa Games and Olympic Qualifiers

The Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) has revealed the schedule for the national trials leading up to the 2024 Africa Games in Accra, Ghana, and the Olympic Qualifiers. President of the NWF, Daniel Igali, declared that the national trials are set to take place from February 3rd to 4th, 2024. The event will be hosted at the state-of-the-art Ultra Modern Wrestling Arena in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State Capital.

Igali emphasized that the trials will serve as a platform to select the country’s representatives from the top three wrestlers in the 22 Olympic weight categories. He also mentioned that Odunayo Adekuoroye has already secured qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympics, exempting her from the trials.

“This is a significant year for sports and the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, with the African Games and Olympic Qualifiers on the horizon,” Igali expressed. “The trials will cover 22 Olympic weight classes and 18 non-Olympic weight classes, with a focus on promoting female representation in the sport. Additionally, we will be selecting 6 male Olympic weight classes in both Greco-Roman and Freestyle disciplines.”

Igali further highlighted the intensity of the upcoming trials, as every participant will be vying for an Olympic slot and the opportunity to represent Nigeria in the African Games in Accra, Ghana.
