In the recent House of Assembly by-election in Adamawa State’s Mayo Belwa constituency, Mahmoud Musa Kallamu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured victory. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) revealed that Kallamu obtained 1,306 votes, outperforming the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Ibrahim Musa Italiya, who received 874 votes.

INEC’s Returning Officer, Professor Mohammed Baba Ardo of Modibbo Adama University Yola, reported that Kallamu triumphed in six out of the seven polling units. The election saw 5,024 registered votes, 2,252 accredited votes, 2,192 valid votes, and 06 rejected votes. The total votes cast amounted to 2,252.

Professor Ardo compared these figures to the 2023 general election, where the constituency witnessed 20,824 valid votes, 367 rejected votes, and 21,191 total votes cast. During that election, the APC secured 7,912 votes, while the PDP obtained 7,840 votes, with a narrow margin of 72.

In contrast, the by-election registered 56,999 votes, 24,610 accredited votes, and 23,443 total votes cast. Ultimately, PDP’s Kallamu emerged victorious with a total of 9,146 votes, surpassing the APC candidate’s 8,786 votes from both the general and by-election.
