Former Nigerian lawmaker Simon Mwadkwon Fwet is confident that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will win the 2027 governorship election in Plateau State. Speaking to journalists in Jos, the ex‑Senate Minority Leader said that, despite recent defections of prominent PDP members to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the APC will find it difficult to defeat the PDP in the state.
Fwet emphasized that the PDP remains strong in Plateau, with deep roots and broad acceptance among the populace. He attributed this resilience to the performance of the current administration under Governor Caleb Mutfwang, which he described as transformational. According to Fwet, the Mutfwang government has achieved significant progress in agriculture, health, infrastructure, and peace‑building. He cited improvements in Jos’s sanitation and road network, as well as agricultural reforms that have boosted food production and created jobs.
The former lawmaker also praised the governor’s efforts to maintain peace and address insecurity, noting that his inclusive approach has fostered harmony among Plateau citizens. Fwet argued that the governor’s performance has endeared the PDP to voters, making it unlikely that the APC will win the 2027 governorship race. He added that the electorate will not be swayed by partisan politics or the APC’s influence at the federal level, given Plateau’s unique political dynamics.
Fwet’s comments come as the PDP grapples with defections and the APC’s national clout. Nevertheless, he remains confident that the PDP will retain power in Plateau State and could even reclaim the presidency in 2027. His statement reflects the ongoing political developments in Nigeria, where regional dynamics and party loyalty continue to shape election outcomes.
