Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has taken the decision to dissolve the 21 elected Local Government Council Chairmen and their Secretaries following the conclusion of their tenure on February 5. The governor has instructed the chairmen to hand over their duties to the Directors of Personnel Management of their respective local government councils.
During a meeting with the outgoing chairmen at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi, Governor Idris expressed his gratitude for their dedicated service to their constituencies, acknowledging their contributions. He emphasized the importance of upholding the laws that govern local government administration, stating the necessity for the government to adhere to these laws. He also encouraged the chairmen to actively support the government for its success, highlighting the collective responsibility to ensure the government’s effectiveness.
Governor Idris assured the continuous delivery of democratic benefits throughout the state, affirming the government’s commitment to fulfilling its campaign promises. In response, Aminu Sarkin-Fada, the Chairman of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) in the state, expressed gratitude to the governor for his support, which he credited for their accomplishments. Mr. Sarkin-Fada highlighted the positive impact of the governor’s support, citing instances such as the distribution of free fertilizers to farmers and financial empowerment programs that have facilitated self-reliance for many individuals.
