On Wednesday, Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje expressed his condolences to the families of the late Professor Ibrahim Umar, the former Vice Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano. He prayed for Allah’s forgiveness and the repose of the professor’s soul. The governor remarked that the passing of the esteemed Professor of Physics was a significant loss, not only for Kano State but also for the nation and the global academic community. “We have truly lost a rare gem,” he stated.

Governor Ganduje extended his heartfelt condolences on behalf of the state government and the people of Kano to Professor Umar’s immediate family, friends, and the Bayero University community. He described Professor Umar as one of the finest academics the country has seen over the decades, highlighting his accomplishments as a scholar of great substance. The governor noted that Professor Umar’s academic leadership had nurtured many scholars and administrators.

In a press statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Abba Anwar, it was reported that after extending his condolences to the family and the Bayero University community, Governor Ganduje also reached out to the International Atomic Energy Agency. Professor Umar had served as the chairman of the Board of Governors of the agency from 2000 to 2001. Additionally, he expressed condolences to the Energy Commission of Nigeria, where the professor was the Director General in 1989, as well as to the broader academic community both within and outside the country.

“May Almighty Allah forgive all his shortcomings and reward his good deeds abundantly with Jannatul Fiddaus. May Allah support his family during this difficult time,” the governor prayed. He encouraged the family to find wisdom in following the late professor’s example of righteousness, humility, discipline, love for his people, hard work, and dedicated commitment to duty.
