Some yet-to-be-identified assailants have attacked the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ojoto, located in the Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State. In addition to the INEC office, the attackers also targeted the Nnobi Police Station and a residential building within the station, both situated in the same local government area.

Reports indicate that the hoodlums invaded these facilities around 1:45 AM on Wednesday, arriving in four unmarked Sienna vehicles and armed with improvised explosive devices (IEDs), petrol bombs, and other explosives. Although the details surrounding the attacks remain unclear, a source revealed that security officers were able to repel the assailants before they could inflict significant damage. Tragically, during the assault, a 16-year-old boy, who was a relative of a serving policeman at the station, was killed. Additionally, a 15-year-old girl sustained a gunshot injury and has since been taken to the hospital for treatment.

Confirming the incident, the Anambra State police spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that security measures have been reinforced in the affected areas and that the situation is being closely monitored. Ikenga provided further details, saying, “The Anambra State Police Command has reinforced security deployment in the state following the attack on the INEC office in Idemili South, Ojoto, and the Nnobi Police Station. The hoodlums arrived in large numbers at 1:45 AM today, armed with IEDs, petrol bombs, and other explosives, and invaded the INEC office, the police station, and the residential building within the station. Unfortunately, one boy aged 16 years, a relative of a serving policeman, was murdered, while a 15-year-old female sustained a gunshot injury and has been taken to the hospital for treatment. The situation is being monitored, and further details will be communicated.”
