The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has urged stakeholders to collaborate closely to improve disaster management in Kaduna State, Nigeria.

Imam Garki, the North-West Zonal Coordinator of NEMA, emphasized the significance of coordination and synergy among disaster response units and agents during a recent Stakeholders Review Meeting of 2023 Disaster Activities in Kaduna.

Garki highlighted the meeting as a crucial platform for stakeholders to exchange insights, share best practices, and develop innovative solutions to mitigate the impact of disasters. He stressed the need to enhance capacity for swift adaptation and recovery.

Echoing Garki’s sentiment, Ishaya Chinoko, acting Zonal Director of the North-West Zone of the agency, emphasized the importance of effective disaster preparedness and response in safeguarding communities, infrastructure, livelihood, and the environment. Chinoko underscored the necessity for proactive measures and coordinated efforts to address the growing significance of disaster management.

Paul Aboi, the Director of the Department of Fire Service and Public Safety at the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency, emphasized the three categories of emergency management: National, State, and Local Government. Aboi highlighted the paramount importance of enlightenment in planning emergency strategies, emphasizing the inevitability of natural disasters while emphasizing the potential to reduce their impact.

The appeal from NEMA and the insights shared by stakeholders underscore the urgency of a unified and proactive approach to disaster management, not only in Kaduna State but across Nigeria and beyond.
