PDP calls for review of nation's security architecture

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has called for a comprehensive review of Nigeria’s security architecture to effectively tackle the country’s mounting security challenges. The appeal was made by the party’s National Chairman, Tanimu Turaki, during a solidarity visit to Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago following the recent abduction of students and teachers from St Mary’s School in Agwara Local Government Area. Turaki emphasized the critical nature of security issues and underscored the need for collective action and collaboration among all stakeholders. He pledged the PDP’s support for the Niger State government in finding a lasting solution to the state’s security challenges and commended the efforts of the state government and security agencies in rescuing the abducted pupils and teachers, acknowledging the complexity of the task.

Governor Bago appreciated the PDP national chairman’s visit, describing it as a gesture of humanity and solidarity. He encouraged the opposition party to continue playing its role in nation‑building, highlighting the importance of a robust opposition in strengthening democracy and shaping government policies. The governor’s remarks reflect the broader significance of political cooperation in addressing Nigeria’s security and development challenges.

Nigeria has been grappling with a range of security issues, including kidnappings, banditry, and terrorism, which underscore the need for a coordinated and comprehensive approach. The call for a review of the country’s security architecture is part of a wider debate on how to effectively address these challenges and ensure the safety of citizens. As the nation moves forward, collaborative efforts and political will are essential. The support of opposition parties like the PDP in finding solutions is crucial, and ongoing dialogue and cooperation among political leaders and security agencies will be vital in forging a way forward.
