The Nigeria Democratic Congress has inaugurated reconciliation committees as part of early preparations for the 2027 general Elections. The inauguration took place on Thursday at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
National Chairman Moses Cleopas announced Professor Pat Utomi as chairman of the committee, with Buba Galadima serving as co-chairman. Cleopas charged the panel to operate with fairness, impartiality, integrity and strict adherence to the party constitution.
“Your assignment is not merely to settle disputes; it is to rebuild confidence, restore trust, strengthen unity, and reassure every member that the NDC remains one united family where justice, fairness, equity, and inclusion shall continue to prevail,” Cleopas told the committee.
He directed members to listen patiently, engage widely, reconcile sincerely and recommend boldly where necessary, allowing justice and the overall interest of the party to guide every decision.
The national chairman acknowledged the sacrifices of aspirants who contested for various positions during the party’s recent primaries. He noted that while only one candidate emerged for each position, those who did not secure nominations remain invaluable assets whose contributions will be essential for the 2027 campaign.
“Many of those who did not secure nominations remain invaluable assets whose contributions will be indispensable as we take the campaigns ahead, and by the grace of God, form government in 2027,” Cleopas said.
He emphasized that the party’s campaign must be inclusive, with every committed member having a role and every stakeholder feeling a sense of belonging. Cleopas called on all aspirants, party leaders, stakeholders, supporters and members across the federation to cooperate fully with the reconciliation committee.
The move signals the NDC’s determination to address internal divisions early, positioning the party for a unified run at the presidency and other elective offices in the next election cycle. Political analysts suggest the appointment of Utomi, a political economist and former presidential candidate, and Galadima, a veteran politician and former ally of President Bola Tinubu, reflects a strategic effort to bridge generational and ideological divides within the opposition space.
