The Ondo State Police Command has arrested 20‑year‑old apprentice Josiah Godwin for allegedly killing his master, Saviour Joseph, in the Imafon community of Akure South Local Government Area. According to police, after the murder the suspect dumped the body in a well at the work site.

A source indicated that the dispute began when the 27‑year‑old victim, an asbestos operator, smashed the apprentice’s phone on the floor. In retaliation, the apprentice attacked his master, leading to the fatal outcome. The elder brother of the deceased, Mr. Odey Ogbaji, recounted that his brother’s body was discovered four days ago in the well where they had been working.

Mr. Ogbaji explained that he last spoke with his brother on Tuesday morning. When he tried to call again on Wednesday, the line was dead, which he initially thought was due to a dead battery. By Saturday, another younger brother informed him that attempts to reach Saviour had failed. Police then questioned the apprentice, who claimed his master had woken him at night, smashed his phone, and beaten him before sending him back to sleep. The apprentice said he left the site the next day, assuming his master had gone to the toilet. However, when the phone was examined, it showed no damage.

State Police Public Relations Officer Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami confirmed the arrest, stating, “The boy was angry, killed his boss and threw his body inside a well. The matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigative Department and, after investigation, he will be charged.”
