The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State has put to rest speculations surrounding the recent visit of former Speakers of the State House of Assembly to Governor Alex Otti. Contrary to rumors suggesting a defection to the Labour Party (LP), the PDP clarified that the visit was not indicative of any such move.
During the visit, members of the Conference of Former Speakers of Abia State House of Assembly commended Governor Alex Otti for his performance in office. The former Speakers, including prominent figures like the immediate past Deputy Governor, Ude Oko Chukwu, pledged their support to Governor Otti and even accompanied him on an inspection of ongoing road projects in Aba.
Addressing the speculations, the PDP Vice Chairman and Acting Publicity Secretary, Abraham Amah, emphasized that the visit was not a signal of defection. He highlighted that the Conference of Former Speakers is a non-partisan organization, with members from both the PDP and the APC. Furthermore, he clarified that the statements made during the visit were personal opinions and did not reflect the official stance of the PDP.
Amah also pointed out that similar visits had been made by the Conference, including one to a PDP Governor by members of the APC. He reassured PDP members and supporters that the party remains strong and united, dismissing any attempts to sow discord within its ranks.
