The Peoples Democratic Party has denounced as “evil” the allegations that individuals within the Presidency were plotting to install an interim government at the end of President Major General Muhammadu Buhari’s (retd.) tenure. Some powerful elements are said to have caused the current fuel and naira scarcity in an attempt to postpone the February 25 presidential election and pave the way for an interim administration.

Speaking with our correspondent on Saturday, PDP National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba said the very idea of an interim government is unacceptable to millions of Nigerians. “As a party, we don’t want to be drawn into the controversy of who is plotting what, when and how. Whether those plotting an interim government are in Aso Rock or the forest, we advise them to abandon the thought. An interim government is evil and unacceptable to Nigerians. Nigerians are ready for the election,” he asserted. He added that President Buhari, the Independent National Electoral Commission, and the security agencies have all expressed readiness for the vote.

Ologunagba noted that the PDP has held several press conferences to highlight this alleged plot, bringing it into public discourse. “We must urge President Buhari to fulfill his pledge and deliver a credible election to Nigerians,” he said. The PDP will leave it to Nigerians to judge the All Progressives Congress amid the fuel crisis and naira scarcity. Attempts to obtain comments from the APC, New Nigeria Peoples Party, and Labour Party were unsuccessful, as their spokespersons—Felix Morka, Major Agbor, and Yunusa Tanko—did not respond to calls or messages at the time of filing this report.
