President Muhammadu Buhari, a retired major general, addressed supporters in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State, on Saturday. He reaffirmed his commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, ahead of the February 25 elections. “I have known him for more than 20 years, and I will continue to campaign for Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Buhari told the crowd at the presidential campaign rally in Lafia Square, where he also endorsed Tinubu’s running mate, Kashim Shettima, and the second‑term bid of Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa. The statement, signed by Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, was titled “I’ll continue to campaign for Tinubu, President Buhari declares in Lafia.”

Buhari thanked party supporters for braving the hot weather and standing in the sun for hours to show their backing for the party’s flag bearers in the upcoming presidential and governorship elections. “I congratulate you and assure you that, God willing, we will win decisively,” he said. He added, “Tinubu is a committed Nigerian, and I believe he will give his best to the country. Also, vote for Abdullahi Sule for a second and final term as governor.”

Earlier, Tinubu dismissed rumors of a strained relationship with Buhari. “Those who think there are cracks in our friendship will be disappointed and see their short‑term joy fade,” he said. “Our focus is not on individuals but on nation‑building, honesty, integrity, and character.” Tinubu thanked Buhari for being the “poster boy” of his campaign, working hard for Nigeria’s survival. He likened Buhari to Abraham Lincoln, praising his focus amid distractions, and promised that under his own presidency Nigeria would overcome its challenges thanks to the courage and resilience of its citizens. “We will work hard. We promise that your children and grandchildren will have no regrets about this nation and about us,” he declared.

In January, the APC President Campaign Council announced that Buhari would appear at Tinubu’s rallies in at least ten states. To date, he has attended events in Adamawa, Yobe, Plateau, Nasarawa and Bauchi, but has not yet appeared in Ogun, Kwara, Cross River, Sokoto, Katsina, Imo, or the grand finale scheduled for Lagos State on February 18.
