Governor Caleb Mutfwang Advocates Transparent Electoral Reforms

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State is calling for sweeping electoral reforms to ensure transparent and credible leadership selection processes in Nigeria. Speaking at a recent colloquium in Abuja, Governor Mutfwang emphasized the importance of upholding the electoral decisions of citizens and reducing reliance on election tribunals to determine outcomes.

Addressing the theme of “Electoral Judicial Reforms: Imperatives for Nigeria’s Democracy, Governance, Leadership, and Selection Process,” Governor Mutfwang highlighted the challenges facing the electoral process, including voter intimidation, violence, and irregularities that undermine election credibility. He stressed the need for reforms that strengthen democracy, citizen participation, and judicial independence.

In his keynote address, Governor Mutfwang called for a fair and efficient judicial system that respects citizens’ fundamental rights and choices made during elections. He criticized the lack of legal compliance in pre-election matters and urged for reforms to preserve electoral integrity and legitimacy.

The success of these reforms, according to Governor Mutfwang, relies on political will, stakeholder engagement, and robust implementation and enforcement. The governor’s advocacy for electoral reforms is aimed at building public trust in democratic institutions and ensuring free and fair elections.

The colloquium, organized by the Haske Satumari Foundation, also featured Alfred D. Skari, Chairman of the foundation, who highlighted their commitment to humanitarian activities, peace promotion, and support for families in need. The panel included former House of Representatives members and other stakeholders in the electoral process.

Overall, Governor Mutfwang’s call for electoral and judicial reforms underscores the importance of upholding democracy, ensuring transparency, and fostering citizen participation in Nigeria’s governance and leadership selection processes.
