NDLEA Seizes Nearly 45 Tonnes of Illicit Drugs in Nigeria
In a series of successful operations, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Nigeria has seized a staggering 44,948.1 kilograms of illicit drugs across Lagos, Edo, and Ondo states. This massive haul is a significant blow to drug trafficking in the region.
According to NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi, the agency arrested eight suspects and seized 11 vehicles from suspected drug barons. In addition, over 14,000 kilograms of marijuana were destroyed in Edo, with another 7,687.8 kilograms destroyed in Ondo.
The operations also led to the arrest of several individuals involved in the drug trade. In one instance, NDLEA operatives evacuated 670 kilograms of cannabis and apprehended five suspects, including a 67-year-old man. Further raids uncovered and destroyed large quantities of marijuana, leading to the arrest of additional suspects.
In Lagos, a well-coordinated operation resulted in the seizure of 10,534 kilograms of Ghanaian Loud, a potent strain of cannabis. The agency intercepted the drugs in the Ajah area of the state and seized 11 vehicles from the drug cartel. In another raid, a suspect was caught with a significant quantity of various drugs, including tramadol and codeine syrup.
The NDLEA’s relentless efforts to combat drug trafficking have yielded impressive results, with multiple operations leading to the seizure and destruction of illicit substances. The agency’s commitment to eradicating drug-related crimes in Nigeria is evident in these recent successes.
