Former Governor of Sokoto State, Attahiru Bafarawa, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, expressed sadness over comments made by Kaduna State Governor Nasiru El‑Rufai, who claimed that there are no elders left in northern Nigeria. Bafarawa described the remark as an affront to the North and found it unpleasant that El‑Rufai would label all northerners as “bad eggs,” insisting that there are indeed good people among them.

Bafarawa’s reaction came after El‑Rufai’s interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation, in which the Kaduna governor alleged that certain elements were sabotaging the All Progressives Congress (APC) under the pretext of new naira notes, thereby preventing the party from winning the 2023 general elections. El‑Rufai insisted that Bola Tinubu must win the election and claimed that, whether people liked it or not, the APC had already secured victory. He questioned who told him that the entire North supports the APC, calling his own view merely an opinion and arguing that he has no right to speak for the North, as every individual has their own candidate.

Bafarawa concluded by warning that the current campaign tactics, which aim to rally support for Tinubu, will be met with a strong response. He said, “We will shock them and make them understand that this country belongs to nobody, including the North.”
