The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has refuted claims circulating on social media that it has decreased the pump prices of petrol and diesel. In a statement, NNPCL spokesperson Olufemi Soneye dismissed these rumors as false and urged Nigerians to ignore them.
Reports had surfaced on Tuesday and Wednesday suggesting that the pump price of petrol had been lowered to below N600, with diesel also seeing a reduction below N900. However, the NNPCL has clarified that there have been no such adjustments in prices at its retail stations nationwide.
The company emphasized its commitment to maintaining the current supply sufficiency of petroleum products across all its retail outlets in the country. This comes in the wake of the petrol price surge following the removal of fuel subsidy by President Bola Tinubu on May 29, 2023, which saw prices skyrocket to over N600 from around N200 during the previous administration of Muhammadu Buhari.
It is important to note that the NNPCL has not made any changes to the pump prices of petrol and diesel, contrary to the misinformation circulating on social media. Nigerians are advised to disregard these false reports and rely on official statements from the company for accurate information.
