Jigawa State Governor Approves N1 Million Subsidy for 2024 Hajj Pilgrims

Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has made a significant decision to support the state’s intending pilgrims for the 2024 Hajj exercise. Each pilgrim will receive a subsidy of N1 million, as announced by the Director-General of the Jigawa State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Ahmed Umar Labbo, in an interview with reporters in Dutse, the state capital.

The decision to provide this subsidy was made in response to the recent increase in Hajj fares by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), which was attributed to the volatility of the forex exchange rate. This news comes shortly after Sheikh Kabiru Gombe, a respected Islamic scholar, called on the Nigerian government and state governors to support intending pilgrims.

Intending pilgrims from Jigawa State are urged to remit the remaining balance of over N918,000 to the board in order to benefit from the subsidy. Those eligible for the subsidy are individuals who have already made partial payments through the State Pilgrims Welfare Board.

NAHCON announced a significant increase in Hajj fares, totaling N6,617,032.91, an increase of N1,918,032.91. This subsidy from Governor Umar Namadi will provide much-needed financial relief to the state’s pilgrims, ensuring that they can fulfill their religious obligations without facing undue financial burden.
