Andre Onana Credits Edwin van der Sar for Support During Early Struggles at Manchester United

Cameroon’s talented goalkeeper, Andre Onana, has credited the legendary Edwin van der Sar for his invaluable support during a challenging period at Manchester United. Onana, who joined the Red Devils from Ajax last summer, initially faced criticism for his performances. However, the 28-year-old has since shown improvement, thanks in part to the guidance of the former Manchester United and Ajax goalkeeper.

Speaking to Inside United, Onana shared how Van der Sar advised him to stay patient and showcase his true abilities. “He told me: ‘Andre, what can I tell you already? You are already used to the pressure. Just give yourself time and show the world who you are. I already know who you are,'” Onana revealed.

The young goalkeeper expressed his gratitude towards Van der Sar for his mentorship and continued support. “He had a great career here and heโ€™s done a lot of things for Manchester United and for me. I am still in contact with him and very happy to talk to him sometimes, when we can. Talking about him is something great because he did a lot for me,” Onana added.

With Van der Sar’s words of wisdom and encouragement, Onana has been able to overcome his early struggles and prove his worth on the field. The bond between the two goalkeepers serves as a testament to the power of mentorship and support in the world of football.
