NAFDAC Raids Drug Sellers in Apapa, Seizes N50m Worth of Illicit Pharmaceuticals

NAFDAC Cracks Down on Illegal Drug Sellers in Lagos

In a bold move to tackle the distribution of unauthorized drugs, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) recently carried out a targeted raid on drug hawkers in the bustling neighbourhood of Apapa in Lagos, Nigeria.

According to a statement released on Friday via the agency’s official communication channels, the NAFDAC’s Investigation and Enforcement Directorate spearheaded the operation, resulting in the apprehension of numerous hawkers and the seizure of a variety of illicit drugs. Among the confiscated items were aphrodisiacs, narcotic substances like tramadol, antibiotics, and over-the-counter medications.

The total street value of the seized drugs is estimated to be around N50 million. Those arrested during the raid will face prosecution, and the confiscated drugs are set to be destroyed to prevent them from re-entering the market.

This crackdown is part of NAFDAC’s ongoing efforts to combat the illegal sale and distribution of pharmaceuticals in Nigeria. By targeting drug sellers in high-traffic areas like Apapa, the agency aims to protect the public from the dangers of consuming unregulated and potentially harmful substances.
