Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency Cracks Down on Stores Without Price Tags

The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency has issued a directive to supermarkets and grocery stores in the state to prominently display prices on their products. Failure to comply with this regulation may result in fines or even closure of the stores.

In a statement released on the official website of the Lagos State Government, the agency emphasized the importance of transparency in pricing to protect consumers from potential exploitation. The General Manager of LASCOPA, Afolabi Solebo, highlighted that the absence of price tags violates consumer rights and the state’s Consumer Protection Agency Law.

Solebo pointed out that without clear price tags, shoppers are unable to compare prices or make informed decisions about their purchases. This goes against the Consumer Protection Act, which mandates the clear display of prices for goods and services.

The agency warned that any non-compliance with the law will result in fines and possible closure of supermarkets. Consumers are encouraged to report any instances of stores not displaying prices to LASCOPA for action.

This move by the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency comes after the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission sealed a popular supermarket in Abuja for lack of transparency in pricing practices.
