Tragic Boat Capsizing in Mozambique Amid Cholera Outbreak

Tragedy struck off the coast of Mozambique as a boat carrying over 130 people capsized, resulting in the loss of over 90 lives. The passengers were reportedly fleeing a cholera outbreak, seeking refuge from Lunga to Mozambique Island in Nampula.

The fishing boat, designed to hold a maximum of 100 individuals, was overloaded beyond capacity, leading to the devastating accident. Reports from the AIM news agency suggest that the vessel may have succumbed to rough seas, causing it to capsize.

Mozambique is currently grappling with its most significant cholera outbreak in the past 25 years, with over 37,000 reported cases since the epidemic began in September 2022. The UNICEF has been actively involved in providing relief efforts in the region.
