Rivers United Knocked Out of CAF Confederation Cup by USM Alger

Rivers United’s hopes of advancing in the CAF Confederation Cup were dashed as they suffered a 2-0 defeat to USMA of Algeria, ultimately losing 2-1 on aggregate. The Malian striker, Abdullah Kanou, was the hero for the hosts as he opened the scoring eight minutes before halftime. Despite a valiant effort from Rivers United, including a near equalizer from Andy Ogbai’s header hitting the crossbar in the 72nd minute, Kanou struck again in the 74th minute to secure USMA’s spot in the semi-finals.

The holders will now face Moroccan club Berkane in the upcoming semi-finals later this month. Stay tuned for more updates on the CAF Confederation Cup as the competition heats up.
