Real Madrid have agreed a club-record fee of €140 million with RB Leipzig for the 19-year-old forward Yan Diomande, while simultaneously advancing talks to extend Vinícius Júnior’s contract at the Santiago Bernabéu. The Diomande agreement was finalised on Wednesday afternoon after several weeks of negotiations, with Paris Saint-Germain withdrawing from pursuit of the player.
The Spanish champions will pay an initial €125 million plus €10 million in add-ons, a combined €135 million package that eclipses the fee paid to Borussia Dortmund for Jude Bellingham in 2023. Diomande, who joined Leipzig from Leganés only last summer, has rapidly established himself as one of Europe’s most coveted young attackers. He is expected to sign a contract running until 2031 and would become the most expensive African player in history. Leganés are entitled to a five per cent sell-on clause from the transfer.
Diomande was photographed arriving at Leipzig’s pre-season training camp in Austria on Wednesday, signalling that the move is nearing completion. The club has not officially confirmed the transfer, but sources close to the discussions indicate that only formalities remain.
In parallel, Real Madrid remain confident of retaining Vinícius Júnior. The Brazilian international and his representatives from Roc Nation met with club officials on Wednesday to discuss an improved contract offer. The talks are described as positive, though Arsenal continue to monitor the situation should the winger decide to leave Madrid.
Both developments underscore Real Madrid’s determination to reinforce their attacking options while securing the long-term future of a player who has become central to their recent successes.
