Federal University Wukari Kidnapped Students Regain Freedom After Two Weeks

Two students who were kidnapped from the Federal University Wukari two weeks ago have been freed, according to Mrs. Ashu Agbu, the Head of the Information and Protocol Unit at the university. The students, Joshua Sardauna and Obianu Elizabeth, were abducted while re-sitting their exams due to carry-overs from the previous session.

The abductors, suspected to be armed Fulani herdsmen, demanded a ransom of N50 million before releasing the students. The incident occurred on April 3, 2024, when the gunmen invaded the university campus and took the students from a nearby shop.

While details of their release remain undisclosed, the students have returned safely to the university. The Chief Security Officer, Mr. Sule Gani, confirmed the abduction and described the perpetrators as armed herdsmen.

This event highlights the ongoing security challenges faced by educational institutions in Nigeria and the need for increased vigilance. The students’ ordeal serves as a reminder of the risks faced by students and staff in these environments.
