Just days before the governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State, a group within the party has made serious allegations against the state governor, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa. The group, known as Ondo Vanguards for Good Governance, has accused the governor of producing fake party membership registers and cards in an attempt to secure victory in the upcoming primary election.
According to the coordinator of the group, Tade Ojo, Governor Aiyedatiwa is allegedly manipulating the election process out of desperation to win the primary. The group has called on both the state and national leadership of the APC to intervene and prevent any disruptions to the party’s primary process.
Ojo highlighted reports of Aiyedatiwa’s supporters recruiting thugs to incite violence in areas where the governor is expected to perform poorly in the primary. The group also raised concerns about the governor’s alleged fabrication of endorsements and the production of counterfeit membership documents.
In response to these allegations, the spokesperson for the Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organisation, Mr. Kayode Fasua, vehemently denied the claims. Fasua dismissed the OVGG as a faceless group attempting to deceive the public with false accusations, attributing the allegations to fear of the governor’s popularity.
Fasua emphasized that the primary election is an internal affair of the APC, with all aspirants, including Governor Aiyedatiwa, receiving equal treatment in the electoral process. He refuted claims of the governor engaging in violent activities or tampering with membership cards, labeling the accusations as baseless and unfounded.
The APC conducted screenings for all aspirants on Friday in Abuja, ahead of the primary scheduled for April 20, 2024. Among the aspirants who underwent screening were Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Mr. Wale Akinterinwa, Mr. Mayowa Akinfolarin, and several others vying for the party’s ticket.
As the political drama unfolds in Ondo State, the allegations and denials surrounding Governor Aiyedatiwa’s campaign have added a layer of intrigue to the upcoming primary election. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
