The Ondo Vanguard for Good Governance, a faction within the All Progressives Congress (APC), has raised concerns about the upcoming governorship primaries scheduled for April 20. They are particularly worried about the lack of a delegates’ congress before the primaries, which is essential for identifying eligible party members for the direct mode of the election.
Evangelist Tade Ojo, the chairman of the group, criticized the incomplete validation exercise for party members, stating that it could pave the way for potential manipulation of the primary election. He condemned any attempts to influence the process, calling it undemocratic.
Ojo also alleged that there are plans to create counterfeit membership cards to allow non-bona fide members to participate in the primaries, further undermining the integrity of the election.
In response to these allegations, Kayode Fasua, the Director of Information for the Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organisation Foot Soldiers (LACO-FS), clarified that membership confirmation will be done digitally, not manually. He urged those with grievances to address the party leadership directly, emphasizing the unity of the APC and the importance of upholding democratic principles.
It is crucial to ensure transparency and fairness in the electoral process to uphold the integrity of the party and the democratic values it stands for. Let us hope that the concerns raised by the Ondo Vanguard for Good Governance are addressed promptly to ensure a free and fair primary election.
