Concerned factions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are urging the party’s leadership to exclude Atiku Abubakar and Nyesom Wike from an upcoming meeting to be held in Abuja. The groups believe that this action is necessary to restore order and political stability within the party, amidst a growing crisis that threatens its unity.

The PDP Northern Professionals Movement and PDP Elders Support Group, along with stakeholders from 22 Northern states, have voiced their opposition to calls for the removal of Usman Iliya Damagum as the acting chairman of the party. They argue that since the case of the suspended chairman, Iyorcha Ayu, is still pending in court, Damagum should continue in his role as Deputy Chairman, North.

In a joint statement, leaders of these groups, Mr. Isaac Samuel and Dr. Muazzam Lawal Sadauki, condemned the attacks on Damagum and the National Working Committee of the PDP by certain individuals on social media. They expressed confidence in the party’s leadership, despite the perceived abandonment by Atiku Abubakar and Nyesom Wike after the 2023 general elections.

The statement highlighted the need for party leaders to address internal issues and restore peace and unity within the PDP. It emphasized that the current challenges stem from individuals seeking to exert unconstitutional control over the party, including those who have repeatedly left the party following elections.

As the PDP prepares for its National Executive Council meeting, the focus remains on resolving internal conflicts and strengthening the party’s foundation for the future. The call to exclude certain prominent figures from the meeting underscores the urgency of restoring harmony and cohesion within the party.
