Onakoya’s journey from Lagos, Nigeria to global recognition was highlighted by the Governor, who described it as embodying the spirit of the city. Onakoya’s record-breaking feat surpassed that of Norwegian players, Hallvard Haug Flatebø and Sjur Ferkingstad, who previously held the record with a 56-hour, 9-minute game in 2018. His foundation, Chess in Slums Africa, shared an update expressing the significance of the 60-hour marathon in inspiring dreams and providing educational opportunities for underprivileged children across Africa.
