Policemen attached to the Orile Police Division in Lagos State have arrested a suspected thief, John Amaechi, for allegedly stabbing resident Peter Onyeanusi to death. The incident occurred around 7 p.m. on 2 February 2023 on Adeoye Street in the Aguda area of Surulere, Lagos State.

According to a source, the deceased raised the alarm when he saw the suspect loosening a car silencer and attempting to steal the catalyst. To silence him, the suspect stabbed Onyeanusi in the shoulder with a knife. Onyeanusi was rushed to a hospital but later died. His body was subsequently deposited in the Infectious Disease Hospital morgue in Yaba.

State Police Public Relations Officer SP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the details, stating, “The police received information on 2 February 2023, around 7 p.m., that a 27‑year‑old man named John Amaechi allegedly stabbed Peter Onyeanusi in the shoulder when the deceased raised the alarm while the suspect attempted to steal a catalyst at 11B Adeoye Street, Aguda, Surulere. The deceased was rescued and rushed to a hospital, but he later died.”
